In a plot twist absolutely no one asked for, Donald Trump met with Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado on January 15 and walked away with her Nobel Peace Prize—the very award his administration once dismissed as “too political” when it wasn’t given to him.
Machado earned the prize for standing up to authoritarianism in Venezuela, but generously handed Trump the medal anyway, complete with a tacky gilded frame and a certificate thanking him for his “principled and decisive action” to secure a free Venezuela.
